Bantwana Initiative for AIDS ORPHANS & Vulnerable children

How We Do It

Bantwana works with local communities and small organizations that are already serving orphans and other vulnerable children. Many of these groups have suddenly found themselves having to cope with an increasing number of children as relatives and community members are affected by the HIV epidemic.

Bantwana works with these organizations to expand their services to offer an integrated, holistic package of care, including psychosocial support and child protection.

How We Choose Our Partners

  • Community-based: Partners bring credibility, experience and broad community knowledge.
  • Leverage: Partners draw on existing resources in the local community to deepen local support and sustainability.
  • Innovation & Learning: Partners demonstrate solid and creative programming and a commitment to learning from one another.
  • Transparency: Partners commit to financial and programmatic accountability.

How We Measure Success

Counting numbers of children reached does not tell us enough about real impact on children’s lives. Bantwana is dedicated to measuring:

  • Improvements and changes in children’s lives.
  • Improvements in capacities of community-based organizations to support orphaned and vulnerable children.
